The images on the site have come from the Tabernas National Park in Andalucia, SE Spain. Tabernas is the site of Europe’s only desert and is home to more than 150 of cinema’s great; the Good the Bad the Ugly, among many Spaghetti Westerns, Once Upon a Time Out West, and Raiders of the Lost Arc being prominent examples. More importantly, it is home to a fabulous set of rocks of Tortonian and younger age. Geologists come from all over the world to see and study these onshore analogues fo deepwater turbidite systems.
Here are some examples of the classic exposures.
